Water Soluble Weaves x Gelli Plate Printing

I’m delighted to be teaching at Hannah Thompson’s Stitching Kitchen in Brackley, Northamptonshire.

We will spend the morning playing with Water soluble fabric.  It is such a magical ingredient, allowing you to create intricate weaves, laces and grids from scraps of fabric and tangles of threads.

In the afternoon we will have some fun exploring the possibilities using these unique textiles for Gelli Plate printing.  You will leave full of inspiration and with a stack of experimental prints!

Experimental Needle Felting

Needle felting but not as you know it! Jayne uses needle felting as a form of embroidery but you don't have to thread a needle! Instead the fibres are meshed together to form beautiful textured embellishments.

We will crunch silk, create mohair like weaves and transform plain garments and create incredible trims and edgings. There are so many possibilities for this simple technique

Water Soluble Magic

Water soluble fabric is such a magical ingredient, allowing you to create intricate weaves, lace and grids from scraps of fabric and tangles of threads. You can also use it to create edgings, jewellery and sculptural vessels. It can be used to make stitches float over textural surfaces and best of all, it all looks so much more intricate and complicated than it really is!

We will be creating experimental samples but there will be plenty of suggestions for uses in dressmaking, up-cycling, interiors and art.

Experimental Patchwork

10:30 am10:30

Experimental Patchwork

Patchwork has so many possibilities, particularly when you allow yourself to freely collage with fabric! In this class we will cut up a mixture of vintage and modern fabrics and re-work them into new designs.
There will be no precision sewing, though you will be taught how to use a cutting mat and rotary cutter. These tools make light work of age old techniques such as log cabin and geometric patchwork.
We will be looking at the quilts of Gees Bend for inspiration and end up with finished pieces that can be made up into cushion covers, lavender bags, pot holders and textile art.
